Community
The Fox River Valley of northeast Wisconsin consists of 18 cluster communities known collectively as the Fox Cities, as well as Fond du Lac and Oshkosh at the south end of the valley and Green Bay at the northern-most point. The cluster communities are Appleton, Kaukauna, Menasha, Neenah, Buchanan, Clayton, Grand Chute, Harrison, Town of Menasha, Town of Neenah, Vandenbroek, Combined Locks, Kimberly, Little Chute, Sherwood, Woodville, Freedom and Greenville. The cities, towns, and villages of the Fox Valley developed along the river around the papermaking industry. Today, however, the area has a strong and broadly diversified economic base, as well as educational opportunities through several institutions of higher learning such as the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, the University of Wisconsin Fox Valley, the University of Wisconsin Fond du Lac, the Fox Valley Technical College, and Lawrence University. There is also a thriving arts community as evidenced by such performance venues and organizations as the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center, the Grand Opera House, the Windhover Center for the Arts in Fond du Lac, and the Fox Valley Symphony.
